Martin Scorsese has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late director Rob Reiner. The renowned Hollywood figure, along with his wife Michele, tragically passed away at their residence in Los Angeles on December 14. Their son Nick, 32, is currently in custody following his arrest in connection with the double homicide.

In the wake of the shocking events that rocked Hollywood two weeks ago, Martin, aged 83, expressed his sorrow over the loss of Rob and Michele, who were 78 and 70 years old, respectively. The pair notably collaborated on the 2013 movie “The Wolf Of Wall Street,” where Rob portrayed Max Belfort under Martin’s direction.

Reflecting on the passing of his colleague, Martin affectionately referred to Rob as a “Master,” praising his directorial accomplishments in films like “This Is Spinal Tap,” “Stand By Me,” “The Princess Bride,” and “When Harry Met Sally.” He reminisced about their friendship spanning several decades, dating back to their initial meeting in the 1970s.

In a poignant piece penned for the New York Times, Martin lamented, “Rob Reiner was my friend, and so was Michele. From now on, I’ll have to use the past tense, and that fills me with such profound sadness. But there’s no other choice.”

Describing their bond, the actor of “Shutter Island” fame shared, “Right away, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room. He had a beautiful sense of uninhibited freedom, fully enjoying the life of the moment, and he had a great barrelling laugh.”

Highlighting some of his favorite works by Rob, Martin praised the 1990 film “Misery” for its exceptional performances by Kathy Bates and James Caan. He lauded the 1984 mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap” as a unique and flawless creation.

Discussing Rob’s role in “The Wolf of Wall Street,” Martin commended his comedic prowess, improvisational skills, and deep understanding of his character’s complexities. He emphasized Rob’s ability to connect with the cast and capture the essence of the character he portrayed.

Numerous celebrities have joined in paying tribute to Rob and Michele following their untimely deaths. Kathy Bates, who starred in “Misery,” shared her gratitude for the life-changing opportunity of working with Rob. She acknowledged the significant impact of being cast in the psychological thriller and how it transformed her career and personal life.

Amidst the ongoing legal proceedings involving Nick, Rob and Michele’s other children, Jake, 34, and Romy, 28, expressed their profound grief over the tragic loss of their parents. They described the pain as unimaginable and emphasized the irreplaceable bond they shared with their parents, who were not just family but also their closest friends.

The siblings extended their appreciation for the overwhelming support and love they have received, urging for respect, privacy, and empathy in discussions surrounding the circumstances of their parents’ passing. They emphasized the need to honor Rob and Michele for the remarkable lives they led and the love they shared with others.
