The Met Office has advised motorists in 108 areas to keep nine essential items in their vehicles due to weather warnings in place until Monday. Snow and ice warnings have been issued across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, with up to 16 inches of snow predicted in some regions.
Drivers are cautioned about potential delays on roads due to snow and ice. The Met Office recommends keeping items such as warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, ice scraper/de-icer, a warning triangle, high visibility vest, and an in-car phone charger.
In northern Scotland, a yellow warning for snow and ice is active with up to 30cm of snow expected on high ground and 10cm at lower levels. Power cuts and travel delays are anticipated, with the warning set to expire tomorrow at midnight.
Additionally, an amber warning for snow in parts of northern and eastern Scotland will be in effect from midday tomorrow until midday on Saturday, with potential snow accumulations of up to 40cm. Temporary blizzard conditions are also possible during this time.
In other regions, yellow warnings for snow and ice are in place for Northern Ireland, with 2cm of snow expected, as well as for large parts of England and Wales where 5cm of snow could accumulate. Further warnings cover the east coast of England for Saturday, and an expanded warning in Scotland for Saturday and Sunday, predicting significant snowfall in various areas.
Drivers are advised to exercise caution and be prepared for challenging road conditions during this period of inclement weather.
