“Netflix App to Be Dropped from Certain BT TV Boxes”

Share

A significant update is coming that will impact certain households, preventing them from streaming online content. The warning is specifically for UK residences with BT TV, as some set-top boxes will no longer support the popular Netflix app. Netflix is enhancing its service, causing older hardware to become incompatible.

Which devices are affected? Two BT TV boxes losing Netflix support are the TV Recordable Box (G4) and TV Box (Z4). BT explained that this change is due to Netflix updating its app for a better user experience, rendering these boxes incompatible.

As reported by Cordbusters, this alteration will be effective from March 4, 2026. After this date, users with these boxes won’t access Netflix titles like Drive to Survive, Stranger Things, Seven Dials, and Breaking Bad unless they upgrade to newer models. BT assured that newer models will not face the Netflix block.

The company confirmed that other EE TV Boxes, such as the 4K Recordable Box (G5), will continue to be supported. Customers’ Netflix subscriptions will remain unaffected, and they can still watch on supported devices. Users with the affected boxes are advised to contact BT to discuss upgrading to a newer model.

Netflix will remain accessible on alternative devices like smart TVs, Fire TV Sticks, gaming consoles, and Apple TV boxes.
