The police watchdog in the province is conducting an investigation following a collision between a police cruiser and a civilian vehicle in Pickering, Ontario, on Friday. Special Investigations Unit (SIU) spokesperson Monica Hudon reported in an email to CBC Toronto on Monday that a Durham Regional Police Service officer was driving on Kingston Road around 7:30 p.m. en route to an emergency call when the incident occurred. The collision took place at the intersection of Kingston Road and Brock Road. The individuals in the civilian vehicle were taken to the hospital, with one of them, a child, sustaining a serious injury. Durham police verified that their officers were on their way to a call when the collision occurred at Kingston Road and Brock Road on Friday evening. Const. Nick Gluckstein informed CBC Toronto via email on Monday that the SIU was notified and began its investigation. Following the collision, Durham police announced the closure of Kingston Road at Brock Road in both directions and the closure of southbound traffic on Brock Road from Finch Avenue for the investigation. By early Saturday morning, Durham police reported that the roadways had been reopened.
