Poundland has officially announced the cessation of its online product sales following its acquisition for a nominal fee. The discount retailer has disclosed that starting September 16, customers will only be able to browse its website as online shopping will no longer be available. Poundland will also be discontinuing its loyalty app, Poundland Perks, on the same date.

Poundland Perks enables shoppers to accumulate points with purchases, which can be exchanged for vouchers. Customers earn 100 points for every ÂŁ1 spent on eligible items either online or in-store. To redeem a ÂŁ1 voucher at Poundland, 5,000 points are required. Any existing vouchers can still be utilized until January 15, 2026.

In an update on its website, Poundland stated, “We are currently streamlining and refocusing our stores behind the scenes.” The company added, “This will bring about more ÂŁ1 product ranges and new weekly selections. However, regretfully, we will discontinue our online delivery service from September 16, 2025.”

Following the sale of Poundland for ÂŁ1 to investment firm Gordon Brothers, former owner of Laura Ashley, the retailer will also be permanently closing 68 stores. Poundland previously operated approximately 800 stores, but with the recent closures and expiring leases, the store count is expected to reduce to between 650 and 700.

Additionally, Poundland will be shutting down its distribution center in Darton, South Yorkshire, and its national distribution center in Bilston, West Midlands, in early 2026. Poundland’s retail director, Darren MacDonald, expressed regret over the necessity of store closures as part of the recovery plans aimed at safeguarding jobs and stores.

Stephan Borchert, CEO of Pepco Group, commented on the Poundland sale, emphasizing the focus on the successful Pepco business. He expressed gratitude to the Poundland team for their dedication and wished them well for the future.
