“Putin Flexes Military Might for Peace Talks with Zelensky”

Share

Vladimir Putin donned a military outfit to signal his preparedness for continued conflict as Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Florida for peace negotiations with Donald Trump.

The Russian president was observed at an undisclosed command center issuing false reports on Russian advances and insisting on persisting with the war unless Ukraine acquiesced to his demands. This development coincided with significant disruptions at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo airports, key facilities frequently used by Putin, due to Ukrainian drone activities. Additionally, a major oil refinery and power plant in Russia’s Samara region were set ablaze.

This marked the fourth occasion in two months that Putin appeared in military attire to receive updates from his military officials in underground bunkers, seemingly aiming to impress Trump during the meeting with Zelensky. The Kremlin leader asserted, “If the Kyiv authorities refuse peaceful resolution, we will address all tasks in the ongoing military operation using force.”

Specifically, Putin sought territorial concessions in the Donbas region from Ukraine, aiming to expose it to potential future Russian encroachment. Despite boasting about recent military gains to impress Trump, the Ukrainian armed forces promptly dismissed his claims as false, stating that the alleged captures of various cities were unsubstantiated.

While Russia conducted airstrikes on the Ukrainian port of Odesa, Putin’s demonstration of strength alongside his commanders coincided with assertions from Russian propagandists that any peace plan acceptable to Ukraine would be rejected outright by Moscow. Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister, criticized European politicians for their proposed peace plan, warning that Western troops in Ukraine could become legitimate targets for Russian forces.

The high-stakes discussions between Trump and Zelensky were scheduled to take place at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.
