A search effort is currently underway for a fisherman who went missing just days before the Christmas holiday. Ben Dowie, a 28-year-old from Carnoustie near Angus, disappeared after his creel boat got stuck on Inverbervie Beach in Aberdeenshire on December 20. Dowie, known for lobster fishing in Arbroath aboard his Sea Eagle AH18 boat, has not been located since the incident.

Following the discovery of Dowie’s unmanned boat, a large-scale search operation was launched, involving Police Scotland and various aircraft, including a search helicopter. Coastguard teams from Montrose, Stonehaven, Arbroath, and Aberdeen, as well as RNLI units from Arbroath, Montrose, and Stonehaven, along with local fishing vessels, participated in the search efforts. Despite physical searches being suspended, the search for Dowie is ongoing, now in its ninth day.

Police Scotland confirmed that the case of the missing fisherman remains open. The local community has expressed condolences and shared tributes for Dowie, describing him as a kind-hearted individual. Messages of sympathy and hope for his safe return have been pouring in from community members, highlighting Dowie’s positive impact.

Representatives from Arbroath RNLI expressed their condolences, acknowledging the challenging circumstances faced by Dowie’s family, friends, and the fishing community. The search for Dowie began when his empty boat was found stranded on Inverbervie Beach. Authorities have been conducting an extensive search across Lunan Bay and surrounding areas but have yet to locate the missing fisherman.
