Sky Q, a highly acclaimed set-top box, is renowned for its exceptional features, including live TV recording, access to premium channels, on-demand content, and popular streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix. Despite its widespread popularity, Sky is shifting focus from its satellite-based platform to internet-driven products such as the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV. This transition may pave the way for a new competitor in the market for enthusiasts of physical recordings.
Humax has unveiled the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that shares many similarities with Sky Q. Featuring a built-in 2TB hard drive like Sky’s flagship box, it offers ample storage for TV shows, movies, and sports content. With physical recording options becoming scarce, the introduction of a device with internal storage marks a significant development.
Moreover, the Aura EZ is powered by Freely, enabling users to watch live TV over broadband. Developed by the creators of Freeview, Freely provides access to over 60 live channels and a vast library of on-demand programs. This setup allows for easy relocation of the box, straightforward installation, and regular feature enhancements.
The device also boasts 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and an integrated TV guide displaying current and upcoming programs. Users can manage the box remotely through the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, facilitating schedule browsing and recording management from anywhere.
While Freely may not match Sky’s premium sports and movie offerings, it is a free-to-use service without any subscription fees.
The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled for release in the UK in February 2026, priced at £249.

Additionally, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel integrated into the TV guide.
