“Storm Ingrid to Bring Heavy Rain, Flooding Risks to UK”

Share

Britons are preparing for heavy rain and strong winds as Storm Ingrid hits the country this weekend, posing flooding risks to 22 areas and potentially causing travel disruptions.

The Met Office has issued warnings for power outages, disruptions to public transport, and hazardous driving conditions due to intense downpours.

Named by the Portuguese Met Service IPMA, Storm Ingrid is forecasted to move northward over the Celtic Sea on Saturday, bringing persistent heavy showers and occasional prolonged periods of rain.

A Yellow rain warning is in effect for South West England and Wales until 10 pm today, with additional rainfall of 20-40mm expected in affected regions and up to 50mm in exposed areas.

Given the saturated ground conditions, even modest rainfall amounts could lead to road flooding and water overflow from fields, making driving challenging and roads potentially impassable.

Although not as forceful as previous days, strong winds nearing gale force on Saturday morning may worsen the situation, especially along the English Channel coastline.

Residents in the impacted areas and local authorities are advised to assess their flood risk and prepare flood plans and emergency kits including torches, batteries, a mobile phone charger, and essential supplies.

Concerned regions include South West England and Wales.
