Survey Reveals Majority Find New Year’s Eve Overhyped

Share

A recent survey of 2,000 adults found that the majority consider New Year’s Eve to be the most overhyped night of the year. Six out of 10 adults are planning to stay in this December 31st, aiming to save an average of £116 that they would typically spend for a night out. According to the survey, over 70% of respondents believe that staying in for New Year’s Eve is more enjoyable than going out.

Gen Z and millennials are the demographic groups most likely to opt for a house party over bars or clubs this New Year’s Eve, with 39% looking for a more relaxed atmosphere with better food and drinks.

Nearly 40% of adults stated that every New Year’s Eve night out they’ve had in the past has been disappointing, citing reasons such as overcrowded venues, expensive drinks, and long queues at bars.

Jana Ulaite, representing Pizza Hut UK, commented on the research findings, emphasizing that celebrating New Year’s Eve should not break the bank but should still allow individuals to enjoy the night as they prefer. The study also revealed that 17% of those surveyed plan to host friends at home for food and drinks instead of going out.

While 13% will choose a takeaway option to share, pizza remains one of the top three preferred cuisines along with Chinese and Indian dishes. However, 24% of respondents feel pressured by social norms to go out on New Year’s Eve, a sentiment that is more pronounced among Gen Z individuals according to data from OnePoll.com.

Jana Ulaite further mentioned that people should have the freedom to celebrate New Year’s Eve in their preferred way and encouraged individuals to choose how they spend the evening, whether by going out or staying in with loved ones.
