The Royal Family of Thailand has shared an update on Princess Bajrakitiyabha’s health, who has been in a coma for nearly three years. The princess, eldest child of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, fell ill in December 2022 due to a heart condition and has been hospitalized since then.

Despite maintaining secrecy about her condition, the Royal Family recently disclosed that a severe bloodstream infection was detected by medical experts at a Bangkok Hospital. This led to the administration of antibiotics and medication to regulate blood pressure and ensure stability. The statement also mentioned that the princess’s lungs and kidneys are functioning with the aid of medical devices and medication.

Princess Bajrakitiyabha, who was previously expected to succeed King Vajiralongkorn, is a beloved figure among the Thai public. She is recognized for her accomplishments, holding multiple degrees including Master’s degrees from prestigious US institution Cornell University. Additionally, she has served in various roles such as working for the United Nations and being Thailand’s ambassador to Austria.

King Vajiralongkorn, who ascended to the throne in 2016 after the passing of his father King Bhumibol Adulyadej, has been married four times and has seven children. Despite this, he has not officially named an heir. The monarchy holds a significant position in Thai society, with criticism historically considered taboo. However, there has been a growing public discourse on the topic, especially among younger generations.
