A tragic incident occurred in Wales when a 36-year-old man fell from the challenging Crib Goch in Eryri National Park, also known as Snowdonia National Park, on a Saturday. Following reports of the fall at 11.30 am, emergency services, including North Wales Police and the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, quickly responded to the scene. Despite being airlifted from the mountain, the climber was pronounced dead at the scene. While formal identification is pending, authorities have notified the man’s next of kin, as per Wales Online reports.
Inspector Jamie Owens expressed condolences to the man’s family during this difficult time, highlighting that investigations into the incident are ongoing. Witnesses to the fall are urged to contact the police via their website or by calling 101, quoting the reference number 25000678802.
This unfortunate event is not the only fatality in Eryri National Park this year. On a previous occasion, Maria Eftimova, a 28-year-old civil engineer, tragically fell from the Tryfan north ridge. Maria, an experienced mountaineer with a significant social media following, had recently completed an ice-climbing course in Norway. Her friend, Victoria Critchley, paid tribute to Maria’s vibrant personality, passion for engineering, and love for extreme sports.
In another incident, Dr. Charlotte Crook, in her 30s, lost her life while climbing Glyder Fach in the same region. Despite a tragic fall from a grassy ledge, her colleague Adam Weatherhogg made valiant efforts to save her. The coroner concluded that Charlotte’s death was accidental, influenced by various factors at that moment.
In a separate event, the remains of an experienced walker who went missing while trekking alone in Snowdonia back in 2012 were discovered after 12 years. Shayne Colaco disappeared in the Carneddau mountain range in Eryri.
