“UK Airline Eastern Airways Faces Administration Crisis”

Share

Eastern Airways, a UK airline, is facing the possibility of going into administration, resulting in the cancellation of its flights. The company has taken a step towards appointing an administrator, indicating its imminent entry into administration. This action provides a temporary halt to legal actions by creditors for ten days. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has confirmed the suspension of Eastern Airways’ operations.

Established in 1997, Eastern Airways operates flights to various UK domestic airports such as Aberdeen, Humberside, London Gatwick, Newquay, Teesside International, and Wick. In the past, the airline also served international destinations, including Paris, France, and accommodates approximately 1.3 million passengers annually. The Mirror has reached out to Eastern Airways for a statement.

Selina Chadha, Consumer & Markets Director at the Civil Aviation Authority, advised passengers not to proceed to the airport for Eastern Airways flights due to their cancellation. Affected customers are encouraged to check the Civil Aviation Authority’s website for the latest updates.

For travelers with bookings as part of a package holiday, alternate flights or full refunds will be arranged by the holiday provider. In cases where flights are not part of a package holiday and are canceled, passengers may need to secure new flights at their expense. Travel insurance policies with coverage for scheduled airline failure may allow passengers to make claims. Alternatively, reimbursement options may exist through debit or credit card providers.

Eastern Airways reported a net loss of £19.7 million for the year ending March 2024, with total debt escalating to £25.97 million and profits declining to £454,000 from £1.55 million in the previous year. Following Fly PLAY, a budget Icelandic airline, which recently went into administration, Eastern Airways is another airline to face operational challenges.

Usher Travel Worldchoice, an independent travel agent, also ceased trading earlier this month. Gavin Morton, a long-serving director at Usher Travel Worldchoice, expressed deep sorrow over the decision to close the business.

Several other travel entities, including Balkan Holidays Ltd, Jetline Travel, and Great Little Escapes LLP, have similarly ceased operations this year. The travel industry continues to experience significant disruptions, impacting both businesses and travelers.
