Share

Incredible photographs depict regions of the UK covered in snow on Tuesday as temperatures dropped to as low as -12.5C overnight.

Further snowfall led to a second day of school closures and travel disruptions with yellow weather warnings for snow and ice in effect nationwide. The Met Office reported that the -12.5C recorded in Marham, Norfolk marked the coldest night of the winter, while Santam Downham in Suffolk and Topcliffe in North Yorkshire experienced lows of -10C.

Numerous schools in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland were compelled to shut on Tuesday, while National Rail cautioned of service cancellations and train disruptions. An amber weather warning for snow is active from 11 am to 7 pm for portions of Scotland and the Highlands, advising residents to travel only if necessary.

“A heavy snow spell is anticipated to progress east across central and northern Scotland during Tuesday, transitioning to wintry showers by Tuesday night,” stated the Met Office. “An additional 5-10cm is projected widely, with up to 15cm in certain areas, especially above 200 meters.”

According to WXCHARTS weather projections, snowfall will shift southward during the day, potentially affecting cities like Newcastle, Blackpool, Swansea, Bristol, Norwich, London, and Southampton. Additional snow is predicted for the week ahead, with yellow weather warnings for snow in place on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Chief Meteorologist Matthew Lehnert from the Met Office commented, “The UK will face various winter weather challenges this week, including low temperatures, snow showers, and the risk of ice. Several severe weather warnings have been issued and are likely to be updated, so it is advisable to stay informed with the forecast.”
