“Ukraine’s Donbas Struggles Amidst Crisis and Child Exploitation”

Share

I recently returned from providing crucial assistance to emergency responders and labor members in Ukraine’s Donbas region. Despite facing daily power outages, missile attacks, and civilian casualties, Ukrainians remain steadfast in their desire for peace while refusing to yield their nation to Russia’s oppressive occupation.

During my visit to the Save Ukraine center, I encountered children rescued from occupied territories, with alarming reports showing that one in ten had suffered sexual abuse. The number of children reportedly abducted by Russia surpasses 20,000, indicating a widespread issue of child exploitation.

The hindrance caused by sanctioned Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich in transferring £2.5 billion from Chelsea FC’s sale to aid Ukraine is disheartening. His legal battle over frozen assets in Jersey, with support from a member of the Conservative Shadow Cabinet, adds more controversy to the situation.

Lord Wolfson KC, a Conservative peer and the Shadow Attorney General, representing Abramovich alongside former Trump adviser Eric Herschmann, raises concerns about reverting to normal relations with Russian oligarchs. This defense of legal representation fails to instill confidence, especially in the current dire circumstances facing Ukraine.

The ongoing legal disputes must not be viewed in isolation, as Ukraine continues to battle for survival amidst escalating conflicts. With populist leaders across the West advocating for normalized ties with Moscow, the need for accountability and solidarity with Ukraine is more critical than ever.

The lack of action regarding Wolfson’s association with a sanctioned oligarch raises serious questions about the leadership under Kemi Badenoch. Urgent measures are necessary to prevent sanctioned oligarchs from exploiting the UK legal system and redirect nearly £30 billion in frozen Russian assets towards aiding Ukraine.

As Ukraine fights for democracy on the frontlines, demonstrating solidarity is crucial. Join us outside Tory Headquarters on January 7th at 5 pm to stand with Ukraine and voice your support.
