“Wetherspoons Launches January Sale: Pints for 99p!”

Share

Pub chain Wetherspoons has unveiled its own January sale, featuring a pint priced as low as 99p. The promotion includes discounted prices on various drinks and food items. Founder and chairman Tim Martin mentioned that since department stores and shops typically have sales in January, it’s fitting for pubs to join in as well.

Running from January 2 to January 15, the sale will offer a pint of Worthington’s beer for 99p, down from the usual £1.49, at more than 600 of its 800+ pubs. Additionally, Coldwater Creek wine will be available for £2.99 per 250ml glass, Johnnie Walker Black Label for £1.99 (including mixer), and Tanqueray gin for the same price. The chain will also provide discounted prices on low-alcohol and alcohol-free drinks to cater to customers participating in “dry January.”

Food specials will include an 11-inch margherita pizza and a crunchy chicken burger, each priced at £4.99 with a soft drink and £6.52 with an alcoholic beverage. Jacket potatoes with fillings will cost £4.99 with a soft drink and £6.52 with an alcoholic drink, while gourmet jacket potatoes will be priced at £6.49 with a soft drink and £8.02 with an alcoholic beverage.

Over 600 Wetherspoons locations will offer these discounted prices, with variations at the remaining 200 sites, including those in central London. Tim Martin expressed confidence that the January Sale will be well-received by customers, emphasizing the wide range of drink and food options available. Wetherspoons has a history of providing attractive discount deals, with past promotions aimed at highlighting price differences between pubs and supermarkets.

Despite challenges in the pub industry leading to closures, JD Wetherspoon reported positive sales growth, with a 3.7% increase in venues open for at least a year during the 14 weeks leading up to November. Notably, drinks sales rose by 5.7% and food sales by 0.9%.
