The Met Office has identified eight regions in England where additional rainfall is expected, potentially leading to flooding and disruptions. A yellow weather warning for Thursday covers areas in South West England, including Cornwall, Devon, and Dorset. Another warning is in place for parts of the South West from Friday morning until early Saturday.
Following the impact of Storm Chandra earlier in the week, which caused closures and rescues in Devon and Cornwall, residents in the warned areas are advised to assess flood risks, prepare flood plans, and assemble emergency flood kits if necessary.
In Devon, 47 schools closed on Tuesday due to the adverse weather conditions, with road closures including sections of the A30. Dorset Council issued warnings to avoid driving through floodwater and adhere to road closure instructions.
Storm Chandra resulted in heavy rain and rising river levels, prompting the council to caution about potential flooding. The storm is the latest to be named through a collaborative storm naming initiative in Western Europe.
The Met Office forecasts a wet and cloudy Thursday with rain and potential hill snow in the north. Friday’s weather is expected to be cloudy and breezy, with rain moving northward and possible snow on northern hills. Unsettled weather is anticipated over the weekend and into early next week, with showers, rain, and brisk winds across most regions, along with snow on northern hills.
