Zelensky Slams Russia’s Offensive Before Talks

Share

Volodymyr Zelensky criticized Russia for launching a military offensive in Ukraine just before important peace talks with Donald Trump. The attack on Kyiv resulted in one fatality and 27 injuries, including two children, as the Kremlin used missiles and drones in the assault. Zelensky expressed frustration on social media, questioning Russia’s lack of response to peace proposals from the United States and the international community.

The Ukrainian president accused Russian representatives of resorting to military actions instead of engaging in meaningful dialogue. He emphasized the need for strong actions in response to Russia’s destructive activities, especially during the holiday season. Zelensky detailed ongoing attacks on Kyiv, with numerous drones and missiles targeting energy facilities and civilian infrastructure, causing widespread damage and power outages.

The assault led to significant destruction, including damage to residential buildings, fires, and disruptions in electricity and heating services. The attack affected multiple locations in Kyiv, with reports of casualties and search and rescue efforts underway. The Russian Defense Ministry claimed responsibility for the strike, stating it targeted Ukrainian military and energy infrastructure in retaliation for alleged attacks on civilian sites in Russia.

In response to the escalating conflict, Poland heightened its defenses, intercepting Ukrainian drones near its borders and temporarily closing airports. Despite the ongoing violence, Zelensky planned to meet with Trump to discuss a proposed peace plan and economic agreements. The meeting reflects ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict, which began with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The situation underscores the deepening crisis between Russia and Ukraine, with conflicting demands hindering peace negotiations. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely as tensions remain high in the region.
