Cold weather payments have been activated by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in 10 additional postcodes in England and Wales this weekend, bringing the total eligible areas to 451 for the £25 payouts.

This move coincides with a cold spell affecting the UK, leading to multiple amber and yellow weather alerts for snow and ice issued nationwide.

The Cold Weather Payments are distributed to individuals in England and Wales who receive various benefits. In Northern Ireland, a similar scheme is in place, while in Scotland, heating bill support is given annually without specific cold weather triggers. In England and Wales, the payment is initiated when an area is expected to experience temperatures below zero for seven consecutive days.

The DWP has officially announced the triggering of 10 more UK postcodes on January 3. If you reside in one of the impacted regions, you may receive the £25 payment in your bank account within days. Eligible recipients receive the payment automatically without the need to apply, typically within 14 working days of the postcode activation.

Minister for Pensions Torsten Bell emphasized the importance of Cold Weather Payments in providing direct assistance to vulnerable households during temperature drops. He highlighted ongoing efforts, including the Pension Credit campaign and the commitment to increase State Pension by up to £2,100 in this Parliament, to ensure adequate support for pensioners this winter.
