Troubled Former Nickelodeon Star Tylor Chase’s Street Struggle

Share

Police in the United States are facing criticism for their handling of the situation involving troubled former Nickelodeon child star Tylor Chase. Known for his role as Martin Qwerly in the popular show “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide” and appearances in “Everybody Hates Chris,” the 36-year-old actor has been vocal about his struggles with bipolar disorder.

Concerns arose when a video surfaced showing Tylor looking distressed while living on the streets of Riverside, California. Fans who grew up watching the Nickelodeon series expressed shock at his situation. Despite being hospitalized over Christmas with the help of former co-stars and concerned supporters, Tylor was spotted back on the streets shortly after.

Social media influencer Jake Harris, who has been assisting Tylor, mentioned that the actor was placed in a 72-hour involuntary psychiatric hold and was slated to enter a rehab facility due to his struggles with drug addiction. However, Mighty Ducks star Shaun Weiss revealed that Tylor was released from the hospital without proper arrangements, even allegedly using drugs during the evaluation.

In response to public outcry, police clarified that they have made repeated attempts to offer assistance to Tylor, but he has consistently declined help. Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez highlighted the challenges in providing involuntary services for individuals struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues. He emphasized that Tylor must voluntarily accept support unless specific legal criteria are met.

Addressing calls for Tylor to be taken into custody, Gonzalez explained that drug-related offenses are typically considered misdemeanors in California, resulting in short jail stays. He noted the challenges in providing sustained care within the mental health system, which often leads to individuals being released back onto the streets without adequate support.

The Riverside Police Department’s Public Safety Engagement Team has been actively engaging with Tylor, offering services that he has refused thus far. For confidential advice on drugs and addiction, resources such as Frank and the NHS are available for support.
