Britons are being advised to drive cautiously as snow forecast maps indicate that major cities will be heavily affected by Storm Goretti. With low temperatures posing a risk, extra caution is necessary for drivers.

Currently, weather alerts are in effect, and households are being instructed to spread salt or sand on their driveways. The Art School of Motoring, a top-rated driving school with DVSA-approved instructors, regularly shares valuable guidance on TikTok to its 1,800 followers.

Recently, the school showcased a demonstration highlighting the importance of avoiding excessive acceleration and harsh braking on slippery roads. The instructor emphasized the need to maintain light pressure on the accelerator while descending and to gently engage the brakes to prevent loss of traction.

It is crucial to note that braking distances can increase significantly on icy roads compared to dry surfaces, with the RAC recommending a tenfold increase in following distance. Even in above-zero temperatures without ice, tires have reduced grip efficiency, emphasizing the need for careful driving.

The RAC also suggests that winter tires provide better traction and can notably enhance performance in icy conditions.
