Google is set to introduce a significant update to Gmail, aiming to alleviate the burden of overflowing email inboxes. The tech giant has announced the addition of a new feature called “Manage subscriptions” to its widely used email platform.
With this new functionality located in Gmail settings, users will have easy access to a list of active subscriptions and the number of messages received from companies in recent weeks. If users find any subscription overwhelming or irrelevant, they can promptly unsubscribe with a single click, saving time compared to manual unsubscribing methods.
Upon selecting the unsubscribe option, Gmail will handle the process of sending the request to the sender, streamlining the user experience. Google highlighted the common issue of being inundated with subscription emails, including spam-like daily deal alerts, outdated blog newsletters, and promotional emails from long-forgotten retailers.
To access the “Manage subscriptions” feature, users can navigate to the top-left corner of their inbox and choose the corresponding option from the menu. Google has confirmed that the subscription management feature is gradually rolling out on web, Android, and iOS platforms in select countries.
In addition to empowering users to control their email subscriptions, Google emphasizes its robust email security measures. The company boasts a high success rate of blocking over 99.9% of spam, phishing, and malware emails. Furthermore, Google recently implemented advanced AI defenses that have reduced scam emails by 35%.
By providing users with enhanced subscription management tools and bolstered security features, Google is committed to improving the Gmail experience for its global user base.
