Olympic icons Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are set to be honored with Dame and Knight titles in the upcoming New Year Honours list by His Majesty King Charles III. The renowned figure skaters, who clinched gold at the 1984 Winter Olympics and later secured bronze in 1994, have had a remarkable five-decade career in the sport.

Expected to join a select group of individuals recognized for their exceptional contributions to the nation, the Nottinghamshire natives, Jayne, 68, and Christopher, 67, are anticipated to receive these prestigious titles. Their impending accolades follow previous honors bestowed upon them by the late Queen Elizabeth II, who awarded them MBEs in 1981 and OBEs in 2000.

According to reports from The Sun, the duo’s impending honors signify a tribute to their lifelong dedication to figure skating, which has earned them a massive following, including among royalty. The Mirror has reached out to a representative of the esteemed ice dancing pair for their comments on the matter.

The announcement of these new titles comes at the culmination of a varied year for Torvill and Dean, which began with the conclusion of ITV’s Dancing On Ice, a show they were part of since its inception in 2006. Viewership for the program plummeted to three million by the 2025 season, a stark contrast to its peak audience numbers exceeding 10 million.

Earlier this year, the celebrated duo bid farewell to their fans with a final tour, “Torvill and Dean: Our Last Dance,” which culminated in the summer months. After their last performance in July, they shared an emotional video of their final skate on Instagram, expressing gratitude for the unforgettable memories created throughout their illustrious 50-year career.
