The Ogun and Lagos State Governments have issued a joint statement regarding the recent car accident involving Anthony Joshua in Nigeria. The former heavyweight champion sustained minor injuries in a fatal collision that tragically resulted in the loss of two lives.

The accident occurred when the vehicle carrying a team of four collided with a parked truck, leading to the fatalities. The governments expressed their deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and offered prayers for their strength during this difficult time.

Following the crash, Anthony Joshua and another passenger were swiftly taken to a specialized medical facility in Lagos. Medical assessments have confirmed that both individuals are in stable condition and do not require immediate emergency medical treatment. A dedicated medical team is monitoring their progress closely, with Anthony Joshua being conscious and in contact with his family.

The Ogun and Lagos State Governments are actively overseeing the situation to ensure the best medical care for those affected. Concurrently, investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident have been initiated. The public’s concern is acknowledged, and privacy is requested for Anthony Joshua and his family at this juncture.

The statement was co-signed by Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor of Ogun State, and Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy for Lagos State.

The incident involved a black Lexus Jeep driven by Joshua, which collided with a stationary lorry on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria reported that two vehicles were involved – the Lexus Jeep and a parked red commercial Sinotruck. Out of the five adult males involved, two lost their lives, one sustained injuries, and two escaped unharmed. The injured person received medical attention, while the deceased were taken to Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu. The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division was notified for further investigation.

Initial findings suggest that the Lexus Jeep, suspected of exceeding the speed limit, lost control during an overtaking maneuver and collided with the parked truck.
