During the winter season, a common issue faced by many individuals is the need to defrost their vehicles daily. Various techniques are available to quickly and effortlessly clear your car windscreen of frost.
A former NASA engineer has endorsed a simple four-step method for defrosting windshields. This hack was shared on TikTok by Eden Tyres and Servicing, a company operating multiple garages in the East Midlands, and originates from ex-NASA engineer Mark Rober.
Mark, who spent nearly a decade at the US space agency working on projects like the Curiosity rover and collaborating on autonomous vehicles with Apple, is now recognized for his educational science content online.
In the instructional video, the narrator suggested the following steps: Firstly, switch on the car heater to the maximum setting immediately. Secondly, activate the car’s air conditioning to help eliminate any remaining moisture inside. Thirdly, disable the car’s air circulation to prevent trapping humidity. Lastly, open the car windows slightly to allow the exchange of humid air inside with the drier air outside, resulting in a defrosted windshield.
Additional tips provided by TikTok users included using a windscreen cover or a flattened cardboard box, or applying lukewarm water if the windows are frozen. Another suggestion was to opt for an electric vehicle for convenient defrosting.
Furthermore, users recommended using WD40 on keyholes and windows or following a specific routine to defrost the car efficiently. One user mentioned that the effectiveness of Mark’s method might vary depending on the type of vehicle owned, suggesting that it might take longer for certain cars compared to others.
