Google has announced that it will no longer support Chrome on older versions of Apple’s macOS platform. While Chrome will continue to work on MacBooks and iMacs, users on outdated macOS versions will not receive updates or security patches, potentially exposing them to cyber threats.
Users on macOS 12 (Monterey) or older will no longer receive Chrome updates, prompting the need to upgrade to a newer operating system like macOS Ventura to ensure browser support. Some Mac models, such as iMacs predating 2017 and MacBook Airs purchased before 2018, may not be compatible with Ventura, requiring users to consider purchasing a new device for continued safe Chrome usage.
The transition will take effect starting in July this year, with Chrome version 150 being the last to support macOS 12. Subsequent versions, starting with Chrome 151 tentatively set for release on July 28, 2026, will require macOS 13 Ventura or later. Users are advised to ensure their devices run macOS 13 or newer to receive future Chrome updates.
While older Chrome versions will remain functional, no further updates will be provided for users on macOS 12. It is recommended that users on macOS 12 migrate to a supported version like macOS 13 Ventura or newer to receive the latest security enhancements and Chrome features.
