“Villamanín Jackpot Winners Face €4 Million Loss”

Share

In a stroke of luck, 450 residents of Villamanín, a village in northwestern Spain, recently won a massive prize of over €34 million (around £29.6 million) in the El Gordo Christmas lottery. However, an administrative error led to 50 residents missing out on their share of the winnings, causing a total loss of approximately €4 million (£3.4 million).

The El Gordo lottery offered a total prize pool of €2.77 billion (about £2.4 billion), with each winning ticket worth €4 million (roughly £3.4 million). Participants had the choice of buying a full ticket for €200 (£174) or purchasing tenths of tickets to potentially claim 10% of the prize.

The Villamanín festival committee, which had been buying lottery tickets for local activities for seven years, hit the jackpot with the winning number they played. However, due to the failure to register some tickets officially, 50 individuals were left empty-handed.

Despite accusations of fraud by some players, the committee denied any wrongdoing and agreed to surrender a portion of their winnings to compensate the affected residents. Additional funds will be deducted from the remaining prizes to supplement the compensation pool.

Efforts are underway to address the situation with legal specialists ensuring secure and orderly processes for all involved. Some residents intend to pursue legal action for full payment or hold the organizers accountable. The committee is establishing protocols to handle administrative and banking procedures correctly and address the issue transparently.
