Waitrose Recalls Bottled Water Over Glass Concerns

Share

Waitrose is initiating a recall of bottles from one of its bottled water collections due to concerns about potential glass fragments in the water, as indicated by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in a warning issued today.

According to the FSA’s statement released this evening, the supermarket chain will be recalling Waitrose No1 Deeside Mineral Water and Waitrose No1 Deeside Sparkling Water after identifying worries regarding the possible presence of glass fragments upon opening the bottles.

The FSA’s official announcement stated that the recall is essential for Waitrose No1 Deeside Mineral Water and Waitrose No1 Deeside Sparkling Water due to the potential risk of glass fragments being present upon opening the bottles.

The batch codes that should be returned for Deeside Mineral Water are: NOV 2027 28, DEC 2027 01, DEC 2027 02, DEC 2027 10, DEC 2027 11, DEC 2027 16. For Deeside Sparkling Water, the batch codes to be returned are: DEC 2027 01, DEC 2027 03, DEC 2027 12, DEC 2027 15, DEC 2027 25.

In the FSA’s statement, it is highlighted that these products “may contain glass which may cause injury,” making them unsuitable for consumption. Consumers are advised to return the bottles to the store for a full refund.

Customers are urged not to consume the affected items, but rather to package them and return them to the original store of purchase for a complete refund. Additional information can be obtained by contacting Waitrose’s customer care at 0800 188 884.

This recall follows a previous incident where Waitrose had to recall the TINC Festive Santa Bottle due to safety concerns. Additionally, the FSA had recently issued another recall related to glass fragments.

In a separate occurrence on December 10, the FSA reported that Illva Saronno S.p.A, a spirits and liqueur producer, was recalling the popular festive liqueur Disaronno Originale 700ml. Similarly to the Waitrose bottled water recall, the Disaronno product was recalled for safety reasons due to the potential risk of consuming glass shards.

The affected Disaronno products have the batch codes: 25374, 25375, 25381, 25382, 25435, 25442, 25444. The FSA emphasized that consumption of these products is unsafe and advised customers to return them to the store of purchase.

In its statement, the FSA noted: “Illva Saronno S.p.A is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought it.”

Consumers are instructed not to consume the recalled products but to return them to the store of purchase for a refund or replacement. For further details, customers can contact Illva Saronno S.p.A at contatti@illva.com.
