Nigel Farage has urged a Reform candidate to apologize for suggesting that David Lammy should return to the Caribbean. The candidate, Dr. Chris Parry, faced criticism for his alleged racist comments, including questioning the loyalties of politicians from minority backgrounds and proposing that Christian converts eat bacon.
Farage acknowledged Dr. Parry’s patriotism but emphasized that his remarks about Lammy were excessive and called for an apology. Dr. Parry had also raised doubts about the loyalty of several other minority figures, such as Shabana Mahmood, Sadiq Khan, and Humza Yousaf.
Recent scrutiny of Dr. Parry’s social media revealed controversial remarks about the loyalty of individuals like Mahmood and Yousaf. He also targeted Dawn Butler, Kaukab Stewart, and Naz Shah, questioning their loyalty to the UK. Labour’s chairwoman Anna Turley demanded Dr. Parry’s expulsion from the party, criticizing Farage’s divisive rhetoric.
In response to the backlash, Dr. Parry defended his comments as light-hearted and criticized the “de-Christianization” of the country. He highlighted the need for thorough verification of asylum claims made on religious grounds and suggested that those sensitive to such banter should avoid social media for their mental well-being.
