Phi Taylor, a renowned figure in the history of darts, holds an impressive record with 16 world titles and an equal number of World Matchplay victories. Back in Taylor’s early darts career, the sport was not as lucrative as it is today.
In 1995, when Taylor clinched his first PDC world title – marking his third overall title – he received a modest prize of £12,000. Fast forward to his last victory in 2013, the top prize had significantly increased to £100,000. However, this amount pales in comparison to the projected £1 million prize money for the winner of the 2025/26 tournament.
Despite the evolving financial landscape of darts, Taylor’s consistent success over more than two decades allowed him to amass significant wealth. He smartly invested in real estate, owning up to 30 properties at one point. Surprisingly, Taylor opted to pay himself a humble wage of £200 per week to maintain his competitive drive.
During a 2023 event, Taylor disclosed his financial strategy, stating, “I paid myself £200 a week wages, so I was always skint, always on the breadline. You have got to keep yourself hungry.” Despite his substantial wealth and property portfolio, Taylor believed his basic wage reflected his true worth.
One of Taylor’s properties is rented to Pete, the father of singer Robbie Williams and a fellow Stoke-on-Trent resident battling Parkinson’s disease. Taylor regularly checks in on Pete and keeps Robbie updated on his father’s well-being.
During the festive season, Taylor extends his generosity by hosting Christmas dinner for family and friends, including Karen’s son, her father, and a family friend. He also visits Pete to share a meal and spend quality time with him, showing care and support for his tenant’s well-being.
