Another body has been recovered from the water in Withernsea following a search and rescue operation for four missing individuals. Authorities have confirmed that a 67-year-old man and another person have tragically died after encountering difficulties in the sea off the coast of East Yorkshire.
Humberside police spokesperson stated that a second body was found in the sea, with no suspicion of foul play. Search efforts are ongoing for one more individual who entered the water earlier in the day, with emergency services including Humberside Police, HM Coastguard, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, and Humberside Fire & Rescue continuing their operations in the area.
Officials urge the public to avoid the vicinity to facilitate the efficient and safe work of emergency responders. Despite a comprehensive search and rescue mission, one of the missing persons remains unaccounted for.
The Coastguard was alerted to multiple people in distress in the water at Withernsea around 3:10 pm on January 2. Various resources, such as an HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter, fixed-wing aircraft, Coastguard Rescue Teams from Withernsea, Hornsea, and Hull, as well as RNLI lifeboats and other rescue units, have been deployed to assist in the search.
Emergency services, including Yorkshire Ambulance Service, air ambulance, Humberside Police, and Humberside Fire and Rescue, are actively involved in the search operation. The quest for the final missing person is ongoing into the night, with emergency services maintaining a presence at the scene.
