Coastguard rescuers have revealed information about the valiant effort to save a mother, child, and a brave stranger during the tragic incident near Withernsea.

A large-scale search and rescue mission was initiated last Friday to assist Sarah Keeling, 45, and her daughter Grace Keeling, 15, as they struggled in the waters off the East Yorkshire Coast. Despite the efforts of Mark Ratcliffe to rescue them, he tragically lost his life.

Local Hornsea Inshore Rescue and RNLI teams were mobilized to locate the individuals. HM Coastguard also joined the search on Saturday morning, although the operation was called off later that day at 4pm, discontinuing the rescue mission.

In a public statement, a spokesperson from Hornsea Inshore Rescue described the challenging conditions faced by the rescuers. They expressed condolences for the three individuals who lost their lives and commended the emergency services involved in the rescue operation.

According to the statement shared on Facebook, the rescuers encountered difficulties launching due to rough sea conditions. Despite the challenges, they eventually managed to launch a boat and conducted search operations alongside the RNLI, Coastguard, and other search and rescue assets.

The statement concluded with heartfelt thoughts and support for the families affected by the tragedy. Mr. Ratcliffe’s family also paid tribute to him, highlighting his selfless heroism and the impact of his loss on their lives.
