In the early hours of Saturday, January 3, the United States conducted airstrikes in Venezuela, causing significant reverberations worldwide.
In a clandestine operation, US forces apprehended Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores at the Fort Tiuna military base in Caracas without prior notification to British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. The capture resulted in the deaths of approximately 40 civilians and military personnel.
Following the operation, Maduro was transported to the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn, where he awaits a federal court appearance on various charges, including Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy.

In September, US forces intensified efforts to intercept drug-carrying vessels entering the US from South America, conducting over 30 operations in the Caribbean and Pacific regions. Trump accused Maduro of involvement in the ‘Cartel de los Soles’ drug cartel, alleging drug trafficking into the US.
During an interview with Fox News, Trump emphasized the interception of drugs entering the US from Venezuela and criticized the influx of migrants and criminals sponsored by the Venezuelan government.
Maduro has denied the allegations, attributing US aggression to a desire to seize Venezuela’s substantial oil reserves, the largest globally, estimated at over 300 billion barrels. The US administration’s interest in Venezuela’s oil industry is evident from Trump’s remarks about US engagement in rebuilding the country’s infrastructure.
Trump announced that Venezuela would be managed by members of his cabinet, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth. Maduro’s impending federal court appearance is expected to involve charges related to drug trafficking and arms dealing.
