A man from Red Pheasant Cree Nation has been sentenced to six years in prison for committing what the judge described as “horrific” acts. Blaisen Nicotine, 27, admitted to engaging in sexual acts with two minors and sharing child pornography.

During Nicotine’s sentencing at Battleford Court of King’s Bench, Justice Brenda Hildebrandt condemned the “horrific” nature of the crimes committed against the children. The incidents took place at a school on Red Pheasant Cree Nation, and the police were alerted by the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children about a video being sold on a social media platform.

According to the facts presented during Nicotine’s sentencing, he filmed himself masturbating in a bathroom stall and lured a young student into the inappropriate situation. Nicotine later distributed the video on social media. The second victim, a 13-year-old who misrepresented his age as 18, engaged in sexual activities with Nicotine during a brief relationship.

The victims’ identities remain protected by a publication ban, and no victim impact statements were provided in court. The Crown prosecutor and defense lawyer jointly recommended a six-year prison term for Nicotine, considering his troubled background marked by violence, substance abuse, and childhood victimization.

Apologizing in court, Nicotine expressed remorse for his actions and emphasized his desire for redemption. Despite the judge acknowledging the relatively lenient sentence, she deemed it appropriate given Nicotine’s guilty pleas and the avoidance of further trauma for the victims. Nicotine will serve approximately three years and nine months in prison following credit for time served.
