The Ottawa Rapid have named Carmelina Moscato, a former player for the Canadian national team, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. This decision comes after the current head coach, Katrine Pedersen, announced her departure from the team, which currently leads the Northern Super League.

Moscato, a distinguished member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having competed in three Women’s World Cups and securing a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics. She has a coaching background in various countries, including Denmark, Mexico, and most recently, Saudi Arabia.

The Rapid confirmed that Moscato will be signing a two-season contract and will begin working with the team this year to prepare for the upcoming season, focusing on player recruitment.

Team CEO Thomas Gilbert expressed confidence in Moscato’s leadership abilities and extensive soccer knowledge, emphasizing her understanding of the Canadian soccer landscape. Moscato, in turn, expressed her excitement to contribute to the team’s growth and create an environment where players can excel and compete at the highest level.

Currently leading the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 games, Ottawa Rapid’s next match will take place in Calgary at 4 p.m. on Saturday, with live coverage available on CBC Gem.
