Nick Reiner, accused of murdering his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, has been denied access to a $1.5 million trust fund he sought for his legal defense. Court documents show that Reiner was trying to claim unpaid money from a trust established for him in 1993.
Trustees rejected Reiner’s request for funds citing the “slayer statute,” a California law that prohibits individuals who have intentionally killed someone from inheriting money or property from the deceased. Rob Reiner, a renowned director, and actor, and Michele, a photographer and producer, were fatally stabbed in their California home on Dec. 14, 2025, leading to the arrest of their son, Nick Reiner.
Facing murder charges, Nick Reiner, aged 32, pleaded not guilty after being indicted by a Los Angeles County grand jury. The indictment alleges that Reiner lay in wait before attacking his parents, potentially facing the death penalty depending on the outcome of the case.
As per a June filing, Nick Reiner was entitled to access his trust fund in installments at specific ages, but he claimed he had not received the funds due to him. A petition highlighted that the fund contained at least $1.5 million, with high-profile lawyer Alan Jackson initially representing Reiner before stepping down. Reiner’s siblings had initially agreed to cover his legal fees but later reversed their decision.
Legal proceedings around Reiner’s trust fund access are on hold pending the resolution of the criminal case against him.
