In an Instagram post, Billy Ray revealed that he has always referred to his daughter as Miley, a nickname derived from her original name, Destiny Hope Cyrus. He explained that the moniker originated from her cheerful demeanor as a baby, evolving from “Smiley” to “Miley.” Additionally, he recounted introducing Miley to Dolly Parton, whom he asked to be Miley’s godmother during his time as her tour opening act.
Both Billy Ray and Miley have publicly mourned the recent passing of Dolly Parton. Billy Ray, who celebrated his 65th birthday on the day of Parton’s demise, emphasized the importance of family during this time and supported Miley’s decision to go by a single name.
