The Toronto Blue Jays’ star player, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., has been cleared to play after coming off the seven-day injured list. He is set to join the team for their upcoming game against the New York Yankees.
Guerrero sustained an injury during a game against the Yankees last week when he collided with New York’s rookie shortstop, George Lombard Jr., in a peculiar play at third base during the sixth inning. Despite the collision causing his helmet to come off, Guerrero managed to score a run before leaving the game.
After passing his final concussion tests, Guerrero returned to the team on Friday. He also participated in a minor league rehabilitation game for single-A Dunedin on Thursday, where he doubled and took swings in the batting cage.
In the lineup for Saturday’s game, Guerrero was placed second following the Blue Jays’ loss to the Yankees in the series opener on Friday. In a corresponding roster move, infielder/outfielder Davis Schneider was sent down to triple-A Buffalo.
Guerrero boasts a batting average of .263 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs. Prior to his injury, he had been on a hot streak, hitting .310 in his last seven games.
