The Toronto Blue Jays are gearing up for the final stretch of their regular season with 30 games remaining. They kick off a crucial series against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night at Rogers Centre. Currently trailing the Cleveland Guardians by two games for the last American League wild-card spot, the Jays have a critical home advantage with their next six games scheduled at Rogers Centre before heading out for a challenging nine-game road trip.

In the wild-card race, the Houston Astros are nipping at the Guardians’ heels, who are on a hot streak with five consecutive wins. Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers have taken the lead in the AL West, and the Minnesota Twins are in a tie with the Jays, both trailing the Guardians by two games. Notably, the Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners, and Detroit Tigers are also in contention for a wild-card spot.

The Blue Jays will have veteran right-hander Max Scherzer on the mound for Tuesday’s game, looking to build on their record of 64-68. Facing them will be the Royals’ right-hander Seth Lugo, who despite an eight-game winning streak, still lags six games behind Toronto in the wild-card race. The series will continue with games on Wednesday and Thursday before the Mariners visit for a weekend series.

Having won 13 of their last 22 games, the Blue Jays are entering a crucial phase of their season. Despite losing two out of three games to the Yankees over the weekend, they have been performing well. Notably, the Blue Jays have a favorable schedule ahead, with no remaining games against teams above a .500 winning percentage. Their upcoming opponents collectively have a winning percentage of .464, with a significant portion of their games against direct wild-card rivals. Furthermore, they will play 15 of their final 30 games at Rogers Centre, providing them with a valuable home-field advantage.
