“USS Abraham Lincoln Crew Makes Port Call in Thailand”

Share

Buses transporting crew members of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier arrived in the coastal city of Pattaya, Thailand, on Thursday as part of a scheduled port call following an extensive deployment in the Middle East. The Lincoln had been engaged in operations supporting the U.S. efforts against Iran, setting a new record for an uninterrupted period at sea, exceeding 260 days. Concerns were raised last month regarding the crew’s mental well-being and shortages of essential food supplies onboard.

Despite these issues, the U.S. Navy downplayed any significant problems, with President Donald Trump remarking that the deployment was not long enough. The U.S. Embassy in Bangkok reported that the ship had been deployed for a total of 286 days, with 264 days spent continuously at sea before its arrival in Chonburi province.

Following its visit in Thailand, the USS Abraham Lincoln is expected to depart over the weekend to resume its journey back to the United States. Service members expressed their enthusiasm upon arrival in Thailand, with vendors and travel agents gathering outside the designated pickup point at the Hard Rock Hotel to offer souvenirs and services to the crew.

Additional ships from the Lincoln’s strike group, including the USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. and the USS Robert Smalls, are docked at ports in Thailand. Local vendors, like A-ngoon Sombat, seize the opportunity to sell their goods to visiting sailors during such port calls.

As service members explored Pattaya, engaging in shopping and sightseeing activities, a sense of relief and excitement was palpable among the crew. The morale was reported to be high, particularly among those embarking on their first deployment and anticipating their return home.

While the exact return date of the strike group to the U.S. remains undisclosed, the commanding officer of the Lincoln, Capt. Dan Keeler, hinted at potential supply stops before the ship heads back home. Observers and enthusiasts, like Keith Eldridge, expressed admiration for the technological marvel and sheer scale of the USS Abraham Lincoln during its visit in Thailand.
