“Beast from the East Returns: UK Braces for Snow”

Share

The possibility of a return of the Beast from the East has been discussed by the Met Office. Various weather services like WX Charts, Ventusky, and Netweather TV are indicating a potential snowfall in Britain, with temperatures possibly dropping to -12C by early February. This forecast comes shortly after Storm Goretti hit the UK.

The temperature is expected to decrease starting from January 30, in line with earlier predictions suggesting a wintry shift around January 31. Weather maps illustrate a large area of snow covering regions from East Anglia to Wales.

The anticipated snowfall is predicted to affect areas north of the capital, with the Met Office supporting the snow forecast in its latest update, referring to the nation as a weather “battleground.”

Met Office’s Deputy Chief Forecaster Steven Keates mentioned the likelihood of colder conditions in the upcoming week, although the exact timing and extent of the cold air remain uncertain. The majority of weather models suggest below-average temperatures from the east, with a few indicating very low values.

Krista Hammond, Met Office Space Weather Manager, highlighted some uncertainty regarding the timing of a Coronal Mass Ejection’s (CME) arrival, potentially leading to geomagnetic storming and aurora sightings in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northern England if skies are clear. The effects of the CME may persist into Tuesday night, diminishing by Wednesday night.
