Canadian astronaut Joshua Kutryk embarked on a six-month mission to the International Space Station (ISS) 11 days ago. During his first media interaction in space on Tuesday, Kutryk expressed his excitement, stating that he is thoroughly enjoying the experience.

Adapting to life in microgravity, Kutryk mentioned the challenges of relearning basic tasks like sleeping and eating. Despite the initial frustrations, he finds joy and satisfaction in the unique experience of space exploration.

Apart from the thrill of being in space, Kutryk has been actively engaged in scientific experiments, focusing on mental health studies and monitoring his own vital signs. This mission marks Kutryk’s debut in space, following closely after astronaut Jeremy Hansen’s recent mission around the moon.

Kutryk sees this mission as a testament to Canada’s potential for innovation and progress in space exploration. He emphasized the importance of involving various sectors from Canada in cutting-edge space endeavors to drive innovation and technological advancements.

During his time in space, Kutryk has been observing the beauty of Earth, including breathtaking views of the northern lights. He also highlighted the significance of maintaining physical fitness and nutrition in space, evident from his weight loss since arriving at the ISS.

Several experiments on board, such as the T-Bone study focusing on astronauts’ bone health using 3D technology, underscore the importance of astronaut well-being in space missions. Kutryk stressed Canada’s significant role in space exploration and expressed the hope for continued contributions to the country’s strong legacy in space endeavors.
