Prepare for another chilly adventure as the second season of North of North returns to Ice Cove.
The popular comedy series, a collaboration between APTN, CBC, and Netflix, follows Siaja (played by Anna Lambe), a young Inuk woman navigating life post a very public breakup. Season 1 saw global success, ranking in Netflix’s Top 10 in 33 countries and receiving acclaim for its blend of humor and depth.
“We adore comedy with heart. We enjoy laughter, but we also value tears,” shared co-creator and executive producer Stacey Aglok MacDonald with CBC News.
The show clinched nine Canadian Screen Awards, including best comedy series and best lead performer in a comedy (Lambe). Co-creator Alethea Arnaquq-Baril expressed surprise at the magnitude of the show’s triumph.
Season 2 picks up from where Season 1 left off, with Siaja navigating motherhood, work, and dating while addressing complex family dynamics. The storyline delves into Inuit values like pilimmaksarniq, focusing on skill mastery through observation and effort.
As Siaja grapples with newfound family revelations, her evolving bond with her mother, Neevee (played by Maika Harper), takes center stage. The season delves into themes of reconciliation, growth, and familial bonds.
The series maintains authenticity by filming in Iqaluit and involving Inuit cast and crew. The production faced challenges due to Arctic conditions, including blizzards during filming.
Season 2 promises unexpected twists and deeper character explorations, with the addition of new faces and grander story arcs. The show’s creators aim to deliver more humor, heart, and excitement, promising viewers an exhilarating ride.
The season features returning cast members alongside guest appearances from notable figures such as Bruce McCulloch and Elisapie. North of North Season 2 debuts in Canada on APTN+ on Sept. 1, with a broader premiere on CBC TV, CBC Gem, and APTN TV on Sept. 8, followed by a global release on Netflix later in the year.
