In Nepal, rescuers successfully extracted a Chinese man and a woman in separate operations following the recent devastating floods. The man was saved from a hydropower tunnel by a joint team of Nepalese military and South Korean experts. He was then airlifted for a health assessment. The rescue was captured in images showing him being evacuated by helicopter with medical assistance.

The man expressed disbelief at his rescue, mentioning how he had repeatedly called out for help whenever he saw the rescue lights but went unheard. CCTV released audio of the man narrating his rescue experience. Following the rescue, he was taken to the hospital and reported to be in stable condition.

Rescue operations have intensified at 12 hydropower projects in Nepal, with an estimated 900 missing workers and around 500 believed to be trapped in various tunnels. Specialized teams from India, China, South Korea, and the United States are combing through debris and damaged structures in search of survivors.

In another incident, a woman was rescued from a house in flood-hit Nuwakot town. She was airlifted to Kathmandu for medical treatment. Images from the rescue showed the woman, covered in mud, being provided with water before being safely evacuated.

The devastating floods on August 26, suspected to be triggered by a glacier collapse, have claimed over 1,300 lives with more than 5,000 individuals still missing, as reported by Nepal’s disaster management agency.
