Share

EDF has reintroduced its Sunday Saver challenge for February, offering customers free electricity on Sundays if they shift their electricity usage away from peak hours on weekdays, specifically between 4pm to 7pm. Customers who participate can earn between four and 16 hours of free electricity the following Sunday, with four Sunday Saver challenges scheduled for February 15 and 22, and March 1 and 8. EDF customers with smart meters can register for the challenge until Sunday, February 1.

Since the initiative started, EDF reports that over 260,000 households have received more than 17 million free hours of electricity through the Sunday Saver program, resulting in £5.2 million in bill credits for customers. Additionally, during Christmas, over 100,000 customers enjoyed eight hours of free electricity, with EDF giving away a total of 910,536 free hours of electricity to households.

One satisfied participant, Natasha Shields from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, has accumulated over 680 free hours on Sundays since joining the challenge. Shields expressed how the Sunday Saver initiative has helped her family cope with rising living costs, stating that they adjust their electricity usage during peak hours and utilize the free electricity earned on Sundays for various household tasks.

EDF’s Sales & Marketing Director, Jon Perks, emphasized the importance of Sunday Saver in helping customers reduce costs during the winter months, highlighting the program’s contribution to promoting a more sustainable electricity grid. Customers can monitor their progress in the Sunday Saver challenge through the Energy Hub on MyAccount, enabling them to track and optimize their household’s energy consumption.

In addition to the Sunday Saver initiative, EDF is currently providing £50 credit to new and existing customers who sign up for any of its electric vehicle (EV) tariffs within the next month. The EV tariffs offer five hours of discounted electricity every night between 12am and 5am for both homes and electric vehicles, promoting energy efficiency and cost savings for customers.
