Share

Severe flooding and travel disruptions are expected in various areas today due to Storm Chandra. Weather alerts have been issued for heavy rain, particularly in the Southwest and Northwest of England, along with the likelihood of snowfall in Scotland and northern England.

The Environment Agency has cautioned the public about potential flooding risks, emphasizing hazardous road conditions due to standing water. Both homes and businesses are at risk of flooding, with potential landslides in vulnerable locations as indicated by the Met Office.

Currently, there are 67 flood warnings in effect in England and two in Scotland, primarily concentrated in the waterways of the Southwest of England, including Dorset National Landscape and Devon.

According to the Met Office forecast, Storm Chandra will bring persistent heavy rain later today and overnight, clearing northeastwards by Tuesday morning. Rainfall amounts between 30-50 mm are expected widely, with up to 60-80 mm on elevated terrains, which may lead to flooding and disruptions, particularly on Tuesday morning. Strong southeasterly winds are also anticipated.

The Met Office highlighted gusts of 60-70mph in eastern Northern Ireland, with possible 75mph gusts along coastal areas. However, the main concern remains flooding across various regions. The Mirror provides an in-depth overview of the flooding concerns.
