Escaped Thief’s Crime Spree Ends in Dramatic Capture

Share

A notorious thief escaped from a hospital following a life-altering injury in a severe car accident. George Dunn, aged 42, stole various valuable items like war medals, watches, and handbags totaling over £3,000 from five different locations during June and July. Authorities gathered DNA and surveillance footage across Kent to track down Dunn and put an end to his series of burglaries.

While the police were investigating, Dunn suffered serious injuries after crashing his vehicle into a wall and fence in Tunbridge Wells on July 20. Despite being in critical condition, Dunn tried to flee the scene multiple times as emergency responders arrived. Eventually, firefighters had to extricate him from the car, and he was swiftly transported to a London hospital.

Before being fit for police questioning, Dunn discharged himself from the hospital to avoid law enforcement. Just a month later, he burgled a sixth residence in Biddenden and was caught by a neighbor falling out of a window. Dunn, a resident of Maidstone, was apprehended by officers on October 15, charged with six burglary counts and various traffic violations, and later pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court. He was sentenced on December 23 to six years and nine months in prison.

Detective Inspector Lisa Featherstone from Kent Police remarked, “Dunn is a repeat offender who was adamant about continuing his unlawful activities. Not even a life-changing injury deterred him as he left the hospital to escape accountability and commit more crimes. The investigation was thorough, connecting Dunn to multiple burglaries and driving infractions across the county. I extend my gratitude to the victims for their unwavering support throughout this process and hope they find solace in Dunn’s incarceration for these offenses.”
