Police in Bury have initiated a homicide investigation following the discovery of a man who was fatally stabbed on New Year’s Eve. Responding to reports of a disturbance at a residence on Tarn Drive just before midnight, law enforcement swiftly apprehended a man and a woman, both in their twenties, on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of a man in the same age group. Authorities indicated that the man’s injuries were indicative of a stabbing.

The neighborhood was swarmed by numerous police officers and vehicles, with cordons established and forensic teams operating within the vicinity of a property enclosed by a blue tent. Police presence persisted throughout the night and into the morning.

Members of the Tactical Aid Unit were observed conducting door-to-door inquiries later in the day, while another group of officers inspected drains, according to reports from the Manchester Evening News. Residents recounted that the street was cordoned off around 12:30 am, with a substantial police and paramedic presence. When inquired about the cordons, another resident was informed by police of a significant incident.

Councillor Tamoor Tariq of Bury Council’s Redvales ward addressed the incident, stating, “There has been a very serious incident on Tarn Drive overnight, resulting in a loss of life. GMP, Bury Council, and Housing Services are diligently coordinating efforts in response to this incident.” Tariq assured local residents that the incident was isolated and posed no threat to the broader area.

A spokesperson from Greater Manchester Police reported, “On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at approximately 11:55 pm, we received a report of a disturbance at an address on Tarn Drive in Bury. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male in his twenties with injuries consistent with a stabbing.
