Zahawi’s past includes expense claims for electricity bills for his stables and attending a men-only gala with allegations of misconduct. Despite his wealth and business connections, which could appeal to Reform UK’s donor base, Zahawi’s background contradicts the anti-establishment image that Farage tries to portray for his party.
The defection of Zahawi to Reform UK has stirred tension within the Conservative Party, with reports suggesting he sought a peerage before joining Reform UK. Zahawi is now among other former Boris Johnson loyalists who have joined Reform UK, signaling a lack of confidence in Johnson’s political future.
