“Gwich’in Tribal Council Assembly Postponed”

Share

The annual general assembly of the Gwich’in Tribal Council, originally set for next week, has been postponed. The council announced the delay in a press release on Thursday, citing the need for additional time to finalize certain financial documents. The assembly was scheduled to commence next Wednesday in Fort McPherson, with new dates and instructions for participation to be provided at a later time.

According to the release, the decision to reschedule the assembly was made after careful consideration due to the significant business that takes place during these annual meetings. Previous council gatherings have also faced financial-related challenges. During the previous year’s assembly, the council disclosed that audited financial statements would not be released, a standard practice for such events.

The council attributed this situation to difficulties in obtaining financial data from the Gwich’in Development Corporation (GDC), a company fully owned by the tribal council. The delays in receiving information from the GDC were highlighted as the primary cause of the impediments in completing the audited statements. Further updates regarding the rescheduled assembly will be communicated promptly.
